Kelheim Cruises
You can begin your tour by visiting the hall of liberation, the 'Befreiungshalle' on the Michelsberg, donated by Ludwig I. This rotunda was built from 1842 on and is a reminder of the war of independence from 1813 to 1815 against Napoleon. By coach you travel to Weltenburg where, after a short walk, you will visit the famous and oldest Bavarian Benedictine Abbey. The Baroque church, built between 1714 and 1751, houses masterpieces of Asam and Damian. The core is a tall oval, supported by pillars holding the powerful cupola. The high altar reflects the holy St. George who conquered the dragon. The return to Kelheim will be by boat through the picturesque landscape of the river Danube.
