European Cruise to Norway
For lovers of the great outdoors and those who enjoy what are arguably the finest scenic smorgasbords in the world, Norway will certainly provide no shortage of opportunities. Bustling cities such as Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim offer fabulous shopping, theatre and dining opportunities in a unique environment; a land shrouded in myths and legends, crowned by jagged mountain ranges and, during the summer months, bathed in twenty four a day sunshine north of the Arctic Circle.
Set at the head of its own fjord, Oslo has the magnificent, brooding Akershus Fortress, dating back to the 14th century, the famous Kon-Tiki museum, and the amazing, controversial sculptures at Vigeland. Bergen, draped among seven rolling hills, has the Bryggen, the famous restored Hanseatic district on the waterfront for indolent browsing and dining in a unique setting, and a funicular railway that allows fantastic views out over the city's wonderful panorama.
Up in the far north, the plateau of the North Cape is the farthest northern extremity of mainland Europe; the next nearest land is the North Pole itself. Watch reindeer as they scour the tundra looking for food, and see the local Lapp population as they preserve their ancient ways and customs. And whatever else you do, don't miss the spellbinding spectacle of the midnight sun, hovering above what looks like a sea of fire at the very top of North Cape.
