El Guamache Isla Margarita Cruises
La Isla Margarita, known as the 'Pearl of the Caribbean,' is situated 23 miles north east of the mainland of Venezuela. The main attraction of this island in the Caribbean Sea is its many beautiful, pristine beaches. Margarita Island is divided into two sections tenuously linked by a sand spit.
Over 300,000 people live on the island, most of them in the eastern part where the capital of Asuncion and the shopper's paradise of Porlamar are located. The western part of the island, called the Macanao Peninsula, is sparsely populated and has seen little tourist development due to the limited availability of water. Here the sandy beaches are only visited by local fishermen; wild deer, goats and hares roam the mountainous interior.
