Solo travel has become increasingly popular in recent years and the cruise lines have had to move with the times. There may still not be quite as many solo cabins at sea as we would like, but there are more than you probably first imagined and on a large variety of ships: everything from super-size, floating resorts to more intimate and luxurious vessels.
The choice of solo accommodations is also rather impressive, with inside, outside and balcony options available on many ships. To help you with your choice, we have noted below a selection of cruise lines which offer solo accommodations, on which ships you will find them and what the choice for each is.
Single Cabins On Cruise Ships
Cunard Line
Cunard Line offers solo staterooms on all 3 queens, with 9 each on Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth, and 15 aboard the newly remastered Queen Mary 2.
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines
Fred. Olsen a huge amount of single cabins available across their fleet of four ships: Balmoral has 64 single cabins, Boudicca and Black Watch each have 43, and Braemar has 40. In fact, Fred. Olsen have more single cabins across its fleet than any other cruise line – they are an ideal choice if you are thinking of cruising on your own.
P&O Cruises
One of the UK’s favourite cruise lines, P&O Cruises offer solo cabins on all of their ships – although there aren’t many, so you usually need to book well in advance to secure one. The lines newest ship, Britannia offers 27 solo cabins, while Ventura and Azura (the lines 2 other large ships) each offer 18. Arcadia offers 6, Aurora offers 4 and Oriana only offers 2.
