In the last week, several cruise lines have announced that they will be introducing all-new facilities on their up-and-coming ships.
From escape rooms to go-kart racetracks, guests can look forward to action-packed adventures on their next cruise holiday.
Read below to see which cruise ships will be making waves in 2022.
Mission Control by P&O Cruises
P&O Cruises is preparing to launch the first-ever escape room experience at sea.
Mission Control is a unique immersive experience, combining an escape game with multimedia simulation and a live-action story to create a thrilling underwater odyssey. Guests can choose from two one-hour adventures – one designed for adults and the other for all ages.
Boarding the fictional submarine Arvia II, guests will form a team of marine explorers and underwater investigators. The realistic 3D surroundings will take guests into ocean canyons, where they’ll encounter sunken cities and marine mammals. Under the guidance of Dr Melissa Ryan, guests will tackle a series of live-action puzzles and try to overcome danger at every turn.
Paul Ludlow, President of P&O Cruises, said, “We wanted to create something brand new, and we believe this is the first of its kind in the world. Our technology partner specialises in things that have never been done before, so boarding Arvia II is guaranteed to wow our guests and be like being in the biggest blockbuster movie.”
“The unique environmental experience will also leave guests with a greater awareness of the need to protect our fragile marine ecosystems”, he continued.
Mission Control will be exclusive to Arvia, launching in December 2022.
Gelato by Princess Cruises
Last week, Princess Cruises announced that three of its ships had received ‘Ospitalà Italian’ designation.
Princess’ newest ships, Discovery Princess, Enchanted Princess and Sky Princess, are the first and only locations outside Italy to offer an authentic gelato experience.
Ospitalià Italiana is a quality endorsement issued by the Italian government that sets the benchmark for expectations of the quality of Italian cuisine worldwide.
Pastry Chef and Chocolatier Eric Le Rouzic spent several weeks training with the best Italian chefs at the Gelato Carpigiani University in Bologna and the Gelato Comprital Atheneum in Milan to master the art of making the famous frozen dessert.
The line also uses top-of-the-range gelato machines manufactured by Carpigiani and display cabinets produced in Italy by expert craftsmen.
John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises, said, “The Ospitalià Italiana designation is a tremendous extension of our Italian heritage and gives us the opportunity to immerse our guests in the unique Italian culture found throughout Italy in our very own piazza.”
“The designation also recognises the incredible dedication of our pastry chefs and their passion to offer truly authentic experiences and the very best ingredients to our guests”, he added.
Guests can choose from classic flavours, such as vanilla and chocolate, to more local offerings, including tiramisu and Nutella. The menu will also include dairy-free and fat-free sorbets and sugar-free gelato for guests with specific dietary requirements.
Prima Speedway by Norweigan Cruise Line
Norwegian Cruise Line was the first to introduce a go-kart racetrack, with two-level tracks on Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Encore. But the Prima Speedway on Norwegian Prima is even more spectacular.
Prima Speedway is the first-ever three-level go-kart racetrack at sea. The track is almost a quarter-mile in length and can accommodate up to 15 drivers.
The go-karts can travel up to 30 miles per hour. However, guests should note that they must be at least 4 feet tall to drive.
After meandering past 14 twists and turns – including one that goes through the ship’s funnel – drivers can enjoy a drink at the Prima Speedway Bar, a new watering hole located beneath the track.
Launching in August 2022, Norwegian Prima is the line’s most in-demand ship, and it’s not hard to see why. The vessel will also boast a freefall dry slide that plunges thrill-seekers down ten stories.
