From the fabled east to the sunkissed west, our North America cruises promise to leave a lasting impression.
Exploring the USA on a cruise offers a great way to explore one of the world’s most captivating and diverse regions. Full of contrasts, one day you could be waking up in a bustling big city and the next, arriving at small, picturesque harbour town. By choosing to cruise North America, not only will you enjoy the comfort and amenities onboard your chosen ship, but you will also benefit from a range of shore excursions designed to enhance your time ashore.
Impossibly vast and packed with attractions and sightseeing opportunities, North America really does offer something for everyone.
North America & USA Cruise Itineraries
North America cruise itineraries often form part of more extensive voyages visiting either Central America, Hawaii or the Caribbean. Sailings dedicated solely to North American ports are rare, excluding cruises in New England, the Mississippi region, or the Great Lakes. However, even the longer voyages will often include at least one port in the USA, before heading for shores further afield.
The coastal regions of the USA are packed with exciting places to visit on a cruise. The most popular port is Fort Lauderdale which, along with Miami, serves as a gateway to the Caribbean and is ideal for sun and thrill-seekers.
Further up the East Coast, you will find Boston and New York, two fantastic cities for shopping, entertainment and an insight into America’s cultural history. Visit Ellis Island in New York and retrace the footsteps of over 8 million immigrants who arrived in the country between 1892 and 1954. In Boston, take a trip to the city’s harbour where the Tea Party took place in 1773.
If visiting America’s National Parks are on your bucket list, then cruise the West Coast and destinations such as San Diego and Los Angeles. These vibrant cities not only offer ample sightseeing opportunities but easy access to several of America’s most iconic beauty spots, including Joshua Tree National Park and the Santa Monica Mountains.
Alternatively, head north-west and you’ll arrive in Seattle, with its eye-catching Space Needle tower and mountain range backdrop.
The best time for North America cruises
The best time for North America cruises entirely depends on where you plan to visit. The East Coast lends itself best to cruising during the autumn, especially during October when fall blesses the region with incredible foliage and a landscape of reds, browns and yellows that is simply stunning. Further south, Florida is pleasant year-round but note that the hurricane season runs from June to November.
Popular cruise destinations on the West Coast such as Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco enjoy warmer temperatures year-round, with late summer and early autumn the optimum times to visit the region. May and June are the best times for Hawaii cruises, while the Pacific Northwest is fantastic between late May and September.
Cruise lines that offer North America Cruises
There is a wide range of cruise lines offering USA cruises. For ultra-luxury and fantastic all-inclusive value, Regent Seven Seas and Seabourn are excellent options, while the likes of Celebrity Cruises are perfect if you’re seeking big-ship amenities and onboard entertainment.
While most cruise lines offering North America cruises do so on a fly-cruises basis, it is possible to find sailings from the UK, with lines such as Fred Olsen, Cunard and P&O Cruises operating longer itineraries from UK ports such as Dover and Southampton.
Should you be looking for an alternative to the traditional ocean-going cruise holiday, why not consider a river cruise? The American Queen Steamboat Company is one of the world’s leading operators on the Mississippi and visits various cities and ports aboard beautifully appointed paddle-steamers, while Victory Cruise Lines are unrivalled when it comes to cruising the breathtaking Great Lakes.
