I have travelled solo many times and I highly recommend it to anyone that is thinking of embarking on an adventure on their own, especially if it is on a cruise ship.
I know that the thought of travelling alone can be quite scary for some people, but it really doesn’t have to be. In fact, taking a cruise as a form of solo travel is probably the safest option out there. You don’t have to worry about getting back to your hotel at night after your evening meal, you can go ashore surrounded by others if it makes you feel safer and you can enjoy your nights in the theatre and even stop off at a bar before you retire for the evening. Just because you are travelling alone doesn’t mean you have to compromise on your overall experience and enjoyment.
Explore The Benefits Of Solo Travel
Do What You Want, When You Want!
One of the best things about cruising solo is having the freedom to do exactly what you want to do, whether that be everything or nothing at all. If you want to spend your port days onboard the ship relaxing, then you can, however, if you want to head ashore and explore as much as possible, then that is also an easy option. For solo guests, shore excursions really are a great chance to see the destinations you visit without worrying about doing it on your own.
Meet Like Minded People
Many people cruise solo now and it’s a great way to meet new and interesting people. A lot of cruise lines offer special coffee mornings and gatherings especially for those passengers who are travelling alone, so if you do want some company, then you can have it. I met a lady on a cruise several years ago who was travelling alone and was quite nervous about going ashore independently. She went along to one of the coffee mornings and meet another lady who had the very same concerns, they agreed to meet and go ashore together in their first port – the rest, as they say, is history. They had such a wonderful time and found themselves having made a lifelong friend in one another.
Best Cruise Lines For Solo Travellers
I wouldn’t say that there is one particular cruise line that is best, they are all good and each offer something for everyone. I have cruised solo with P&O Cruises, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, Crystal Cruises and I will soon be sailing on my own with Cunard. During each voyage, I met some wonderful people, people that became friends and that I still speak with on a regular basis – I’ve even sailed with some of them again since we first met. I enjoy meeting new people, which is why I enjoy solo travel so much. It gives you the chance to meet many interesting people and not just people who are also travelling on their own. If you are thinking about taking a solo cruise, then stop thinking and give it a go. You won’t be disappointed.
