530Fittingly named after the first explorer to successfully cross the Greenland interior, the MS Fridtjof Nansen is a modern ship purpose-built for expedition cruising. The sister-ship to Hurtigruten’s MS Roald Amundsen, MS Fridtjof Nansen primarily operates itineraries in Antarctica and the Arctic.
As is customary with Hurtigruten’s expedition fleet, MS Fridtjof Nansen offers guests the chance to enjoy an unrivalled level of in-depth exploration during their voyage. Every itinerary is enhanced by a variety of expedition apparatus, including a fleet of Zodiacs, kayaks and underwater drones.
MS Fridtjof Nansen Onboard Accommodation
There are two main categories of accommodation on MS Fridtjof Nansen; cabins and suites. The cabins are divided up between separate grades depending on where they are located on the ship. All of the cabins on MS Fridtjof Nansen boast sea views and are equipped with everything you will need for your cruise, including a double bed, television and en suite bathroom. Larger cabins, such as those found on the ship’s upper decks, also boast a sofa bed.
The suites, as you might expect, are larger and more spacious than the cabins. All suites, aside from those situated on the ship’s corners, have their own private balcony. In addition to the facilities found in the cabins, the suites also have a mini-bar and espresso maker.
MS Fridtjof Nansen Dining
There are three main dining venues on MS Fridtjof Nansen, each offering a great combination of Norwegian and international cuisine. The ship’s main dining room, Aune, promises a variety of fantastic dishes served course-by-course at your table, while Lindstom is a speciality restaurant highly recommended for a taste of authentic Nordic cooking. The third venue, Fredheim, is more informal and serves up light bites and snacks in a laid-back environment.
MS Fridtjof Nansen Facilities
Designed to function primarily as an expedition ship, you will find that much of MS Fridtjof Nansen’s onboard facilities are geared towards exploration and discovery. The ship’s hub is the Nansen Science Centre and it is here where the resident expedition team will lead guests through a series of informative briefings and discussions regarding the region the ship is sailing.
For relaxation and rejuvenation, head to the ship’s wellness centre or out onto the deck where you can enjoy a pleasing soak in the infinity pool or in one of the jacuzzis. After the sun sets, the Explorer Lounge provides a pleasing environment for after-dinner drinks as well as the opportunity to catch-up with new friends and fellow travellers.
