528MS Maud is an expedition-style ship that offers exceptional comfort and facilities for 530 guests. Previously in service as MS Midnatsol, MS Maud operates a series of Northern Lights cruises from Dover throughout the winter.
MS Maud originally joined the Hurtigruten Expeditions fleet in 2003 and instantly proved popular with guests who cruised aboard her on voyages to Antarctica and the Arctic. However, with a desire to embrace new ‘green’ technology, Hurtigruten felt the ship needed to be re-engineered to sail using hybrid power, thus drastically cutting emissions.
At the same, the Norwegian cruise operator wanted to take the opportunity to enhance the onboard environment so it was more in-keeping with their two new ships, MS Roald Amundsen and MS Fridtjof Nansen. As such, MS Maud boasts a range of new accommodation options and amenities, including a Science Centre, a wellness area and two new restaurants.
MS Maud Accommodation – Cabins & Suites
The accommodation on MS Maud is divided into four different suite/cabin styles; Polar Inside, Polar Outside, Arctic Superior and Expedition Suite. All categories boast double beds, televisions and double beds, while all but the Polar Inside cabins have views via a window or private window.
The Arctic Superior Suites, which are situated on the middle decks benefit from separate seating areas, while the large Expedition Suites have seating areas, a minibar and coffee making facilities. Selected accommodation categories also allow for flexible sleeping arrangements (twin or double bed), and large bay windows.
MS Maud – Restaurants & Dining
There are three dining venues on MS Maud: Restaurant Anne, Fredheim, and Lindstrom. Restaurant Anne is the ship’s main dining room, while Fredheim is more informal and offers a variety of fast food options and light bites. Lindstrom, named after expedition legend Adolf Lindstrom, is a fine-dining restaurant which serves gourmet cuisine during lunch and dinner.
The cuisines served aboard MS Mared is freshly prepared, with ingredients sourced via Hurtigruten’s award-winning food programme, Norway’s Coastal Kitchen.
Entertainment & Facilities
Part of the joy of cruising with Hurtigruten is the approach it takes to entertainment. While you won’t find any Broadway-style shows or evening cabaret performances, the entertainment on MS Maud revolves around learning, discovering and relaxing. The new Science Centre will immerse you in the region being explored, while the talks and lectures given by Hurtigruten’s team of Expedition experts will add another enlightening layer to the experience.
In the evenings, the Explore Lounge & Bar provides the perfect environment to enjoy the company of new friends, as does the Observation Deck, which boasts fantastic views of the passing scenery in an elegant, yet informal setting. Likewise, the tremendous health and wellness facilities – which include hot tubs, a sauna and a fitness centre – are the ideal remedy for when you return to MS Maud after a busy day exploring.
