AmaWaterways has thrilling news for river cruise enthusiasts: two new ships will be introduced in 2026, promising unique experiences as they navigate the iconic Rhine, Mekong, and Danube rivers.
AmaSofia: Exploring the Danube
Scheduled to debut on 24 May 2026, AmaSofia will be the line’s 24th European river cruise ship. She will embark on her 14-night maiden voyage from Amsterdam to Budapest, with a total of 31 departures throughout the year, all featuring captivating Danube itineraries. Highlights include:
- Visits to a traditional pretzel bakery
- Guided bike rides through quaint towns and picturesque vineyards
- Immersive tours of the region’s historic cities
AmaKaia: Discovering the Mekong
Adding to the excitement, AmaKaia will become AmaWaterways’ second ship on the Mekong, launching on 3 August 2026. Her maiden 7-night journey will take you on a cultural odyssey through Vietnam and Cambodia. During her inaugural season, AmaKaia will offer two 7-night itineraries: Charms of the Mekong and Riches of the Mekong. Passengers will have the opportunity to delve into the rich cultures of Cambodia and Vietnam, enjoying traditional ‘xe-loi’ (Trishaw) rides, visiting monasteries and local workshops, and participating in a Buddhist Blessing Ceremony.
AmaKaia will operate 22 sailings in 2026, increasing to 38 departures in 2027.
Meeting the Demand for Off-Preak Cruises
In response to growing demand for off-peak cruises, AmaWaterways recently announced additional sailings during the shoulder seasons of March, April, November, and December. Managing Director Jamie Loizou highlighted that this increased demand has led to a record-breaking year for bookings.
