Following years of speculation, Cunard took to social media to finally announce the Anne of their new ship, Queen Anne.
Cunard teased the reveal from its Twitter account, requesting that followers head to its YouTube channel at 1 pm on 8 February 2022. The post included a graphic that simply said ‘Announcing The Next In A Fine Line’, leading many commenters to correctly guess the nature of the announcement ahead of the official unveiling.
The actual announcement itself was short, running for just 30 seconds. The video clip began with a two-minute countdown, over a backdrop of flashing art deco-style squares and a gradual swell of orchestral music. It then showed a roll of artist renderings displaying the ship’s interior and her iconic red funnel, along with footage of Queen Anne alongside Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria.
Cunard initially reported its order for a fourth ship back in 2017. Since then, there has been little to go on, aside from the fact that Queen Anne will be one of the largest passenger vessels ever built for the historic operator and offer berths for 3,000 guests. We also know that the ship will boast Cunard’s iconic black and red livery with an exterior possibly taking cues from Holland America Line’s Pinnacle-class vessel, the MS Koningsdam.
Queen Anne’s construction is currently underway at the famous Fincantieri shipyard in Naples, previously responsible for building many modern ships, including Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria. Where the interiors are concerned, Cunard has assembled an award-winning team of designers, including Adam D Tihany, who most recently was involved in creating the guest areas aboard Seabourn’s forthcoming expedition ship, Seabourn Venture.
In an interview given to Cruise Trade News, Carnival’s UK President Josh Weinstein said that the new ship would offer an onboard experience in keeping with that found aboard the line’s current three Queens, alongside several guest-focused additions:
“For those that want the benefits of a large ship – more options, more space, more freedom – Cunard is ready for that. We’ve found a good audience worldwide primed for growth, and we need this ship to complete the strategy. Now we have a bigger canvas to work with – we can provide more choice”.
