The President of Silversea Cruises, Barbara Muckermann, has introduced the company’s brand-new and most sustainable ship, Silver Nova, in a recent video released on 14 August.
Muckermann mentioned, “Welcome aboard Silver Nova, the beginning of a new era in ultra-luxury cruise travel. A vessel that creates a new benchmark across all categories, she’s also the most sustainable ultra-luxury cruise ship at sea”.
Silversea’s Silver Nova is the first liquid natural gas-powered ship. Three primary sources will power the engines, including the ability to plug into shore power when docked. Therefore, it solves the problem of emitting zero emissions at each destination.

Silver Nova’s green technology fits into the Royal Caribbean Group’s Net Zero Campaign, which aspires to reach net-zero emissions with all of its cruise brands, one of which includes Silversea by 2025.

“We’ve designed her to bring you closer to your destination than ever before, with decks that open up to the world and connect you intimately with the places, people and stories of each region you visit, for an entirely new way to see the world. This is all thanks to its unique layout and innovative design. Together, they create incredibly spacious areas, where the boundaries of the ship and its surroundings melt away,” said Muckermann.
She also mentioned that the line’s first Nova Class ship is focused on natural light and views, making guests feel as if they weren’t on the ship.

Silversea’s Silver Nova embarked on its inaugural voyage from Venice, Italy, on 14 August. The ship will spend the rest of the summer of 2023 sailing the Mediterranean, visiting various destinations such as Montenegro, Croatia, Kotor, and Dubrovnik.
