There is an impressive range of shore excursions available in Bordeaux (recently listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site) and one of our personal favourites is the Oceania EXCLUSIVE “Bordeaux and Surrounding Vineyards”. This 3-hour (approx.) excursion has maximum capacity for just 16-guests so it is intimate and hassle free. The tour will begin with a scenic drive into the city for a panoramic tour where you can experience French history through views of the river front and Cailhau Gate, Grand Theatre and City Hall. From here you will take a short drive to the nearby vineyards that surround this beautiful city and enjoy a stop at one of the prestigious estates where you will be given the opportunity to visit their cellars, experience the fine art of wine making and enjoy a wonderful tasting before returning to the ship.
Saint-Malo is incredibly beautiful and offers visitors something that we would refer to as more ‘off the beaten track’. In the past Saint-Malo was notorious for piracy but you will be pleased to hear that those days are long gone. Here you can explore the wonderful Great Aquarium if you are looking for something different or, if you want to engage with local history we would suggest a short trip to Fort National. It sits just a few hundred metres from the walled city of Saint-Malo and was built in 1869 to protect the port. It’s quite an impressive little fort.
Of course your other destinations are just as exciting and there will be a full range of shore excursions available to book onboard, if you would prefer to see and do as much as possible without the hassle of local transport and taxi’s. You can enjoy the Guinness experience in Dublin or even embark on the ‘Whiskey in the Jar’ excursion. Pont-Aven offers the ‘Carnac Megaliths & St Goustan excursion and Milford Haven of course will tempt you with the National Botanical Gardens of Wales.
