Early next year, AmaWaterways will become the first major river cruise line to venture through the “Land of a Thousand Rhythms” with the addition of two new ships.
The 60-guest AmaMagdalena and AmaMelodia, two ships designed for gliding along Colombia’s Magdalena River, will launch in the spring of 2024.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have two new beautiful ships joining our growing fleet of 26 award-winning river cruise ships and to be able to share details on the new itineraries cruising between Cartagena and Barranquilla”, said Rudi Schreiner, Co-Founder and President of AmaWaterways.
“Everything from the design of our two stunning ships to the immersive curated itineraries reflects our pioneering spirit and mission to provide our guests with top-of-the-line accommodations, warm and welcoming services, locally inspired cuisine and enriching experiences engaging with local communities along this fascinating river.”
Guests can explore Colombia on one of two seven-night itineraries – Magic of Colombia and Wonders of Colombia – with highlights including:
- An exclusive “Carnaval” celebration in Barranquilla
- A tour of Mompox
- A visit to Palenque
- Birdwatching excursions in Magangue
“After visiting and falling in love with Colombia, we are so excited to offer our guests the opportunity to discover the region’s vibrant culture, unique traditions and natural beauty”, added Schreiner.
Guests will also have the option to extend their Colombia river cruise with a pre-cruise land programme in Medellin or Cartagena or a post-cruise land programme in Panama City.
“We celebrate that AmaWaterways chose the Magdalena River to launch a river cruise, the first of this kind in the history of Colombia’s tourism industry”, said Arturo Bravo, Colombia’s Miniter of Tourism. “Once the trips start in 2024, little towns across the watercourse will be able to show international travellers their immense beauty and natural and cultural diversity.”
