Cunard has announced that Bear Grylls OBE will headline the line’s 2023 season in Alaska.
Best-selling author, TV presenter and world-renowned adventurer Bear Grylls will join Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth in Alaska in 2023. A special 12-night sailing will mark the first time Bear has appeared as a special guest on a cruise ship and will be his first return to Alaska since his memorable visit with former President Barack Obama in 2015.
The voyage, which departs on 8 June 2023, includes visits to the region’s most iconic cities and shoreside towns and offers the chance to cruise along the breathtaking Alaskan landscape.

“I’ve been a fan of Bear Grylls since Man vs Wild, and I’m thrilled that our guests will be able to see him live on Queen Elizabeth next year”, said Matt Gleaves, Vice President of Commercial for Cunard in North America and Australia. “Alaska is all about exploration, and our line-up of world-class pioneers will bring the adventure onboard.”
Cunard will offer seven voyages to Alaska between June and August 2023. Award-winning naturalist Dr Rachel Cartwright will feature alongside other renowned explorers as part of the line’s Insights™ enrichment programme. Guests will have the opportunity to hear from Mensun Bound, who has led some of the most famous shipwreck discoveries, including the discovery of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship Endurance.
Other notable appearances include British mountaineer Kenton Cool, who has climbed Mount Everest 15 times, and Felicity Aston MBE, who holds the World Record for being the first woman to ski alone across the Antarctic.
Gleaves summarised the upcoming Alaska season as “an experience not found anywhere else”, with Sture Myrmell, President of Carnival UK, adding, “There’s no better way to experience Alaska – one of the most magical places in the world – than aboard the magnificent Queen Elizabeth.”
Sailing on Cunard’s flagship vessel, guests will take advantage of special talks in the Royal Court Theatre and enjoy a memorable onboard experience comprising five-star dining, world-class facilities and some of the most spacious and comfortable accommodations at sea.
