The entire Holland America Line fleet has returned to the waters for the first time since April 2020.
Yesterday, Westerdam welcomed guests at the Port of Seattle for the first of a series of 7-day ‘Alaska Explorer’ sailings. The week-long voyages will continue until the end of September and feature visits to Victoria, Juneau and Sitka, sailing across Puget Sound and Stephens Passage and past Hubbard Glacier.
Gus Antorcha, President of Holland America Line, explains, “Today is an emotional day that’s been more than a year in the making, and Westerdam is the final puzzle piece to make our fleet of ships in service complete.”

Holland America Line was the first cruise line to offer cruises to Alaska almost 75 years ago.
Following her Alaskan season, the ship will embark on an epic 36-day ‘South Pacific Crossing’ repositioning from Seattle to Sydney. The voyage will include visits to some of the world’s most beautiful tropical destinations, including Fiji, Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia.
Westerdam will then offer a series of 13-day ‘South Australia Discovery’ cruises before making her way to Singapore via the Great Barrier Reef.
For the first time in two years, the vessel will offer cruises to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, China and the Philippines before returning to North America for another season in Alaska.
In July 2021, Nieuw Amsterdam welcomed guests back with a 7-night voyage from Alaska to Vancouver. The rest of the fleet followed suit, offering a collection of European, North American and South Pacific sailings.
Volendam is currently serving as a temporary home for Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands. The ship will resume service on 3 July, with voyages from Rotterdam to Norway, the British Isles and Iceland.
