Today is a big day for Seabourn Cruises as Seabourn Venture has set sail on its inaugural voyage after a 12-month delay.
Seabourn Venture – Seabourn’s first purpose-built expedition ship – was initially set for delivery in July 2021. She was then scheduled to launch in April 2022, which was later postponed to 15 July 2022.
However, due to the global impact of the Coronavirus pandemic, namely, supply chain issues, the launch was once again postponed to 27 July 2022.
Following the third delay, Seabourn released the following statement:
“Despite the continuous work and substantial efforts at the shipyard, the ship is requiring additional time for final completion and inspections. We are not willing to compromise on quality, safety or the guest experience, and therefore, we must regretfully cancel its first voyage.”
“For the ship to be ready for service, several milestones need to be completed in advance of its first voyage. These milestones, despite rigorous planning and high levels of staffing, have not been met. The last remaining milestones are minor; however, they must be completed to finalise the sign-off and delivery of the vessel.”
Earlier today, Seabourn Venture set sail on a 10-day Northern Isles cruise from Tromsø to Oslo, calling at Storstappen Island, Hornvika, Skarsvag, Bear Island, Svalbard and Longyearbyen.
Offering all-suite, all-veranda accommodation, Seabourn Venture can carry up to 265 guests and 120 crew, including a 27-person expedition team.
Both Seabourn Venture and the forthcoming Seabourn Pursuit comply with PC6 Polar Class specifications. A new and exciting offering on both vessels is two custom-built submarines, providing in-depth and unforgettable exploration of the world beneath the ocean’s surface. In addition, the ships’ fleet of tandem kayaks and 24 Zodiacs – which can accommodate all 265 passengers at once – will allow for immersive exploration in the world’s most isolated polar regions, including Svalbard, Greenland, Iceland, Canada and Antarctica.
Seabourn Pursuit is currently being built at the T. Mariotti shipyard in Genoa, Italy. She is scheduled to debut in 2023.
Throughout the remainder of 2022, Seabourn Venture will offer a 24-day ‘Atlantic Migration and Panama Canal’ cruise, with fares starting from £11,499 per person for a Veranda Suite. Other season highlights include a 12-day sailing of the Humboldt route, priced at £7,499 per person, and ten days exploring the Great White Continent, available from £8,799 per person.
